Chill Pill Box 82nd Academy Awards – Oscars 2010 Contest

This will be my last post before I leave to London early morning tomorrow. I will be back nshalla on March 5th. I will have very limited access to my blog. But I promised myself to leave you with something very interesting until I come back.

I have been planning for this contest before the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations. I hope you enjoy it as much I as did planning for it. Now there is no way for you to cheat or find out the answers anywhere.  We will only know the correct answers by 8th March early morning hours (Kuwait time), when the live event takes place ;)

The contest is basically your predictions on the winners of this years Oscars. I have picked 9 categories out of the 24 that were announced. Your mission is to predict who will win in each of these categories. Take your time in researching the subject and getting the opinions of the experts in the field. You also have enough time to watch the nominated movies to make a better judgment yourself.

There will be only one winner. The prize will be a collection of gifts. I have not decided what to give out yet. I can only assure you one thing:

I will pick out the gifts while in London, and they will be very nice :)

If you are willing to take the challenge, click on the link below to participate. You will find the General Rules followed by the questions. Please give the General Rules a read first . Good luck to all :)

Barney’s Musical Castle. At Last

We had so much fun!

I had so much fun!

Our “rendezvous” was at 6:30pm yesterday. We arrived at 6:10 to see a long queue of cars lined up to get into the parking area. Security was well arranged. You can see policemen, fire trucks, and security checks at the entrance. We prepared well for the traffic and my husband dropped us off and left.

There was a long queue to enter the theater. It took us like 20 minutes to get in. The queue started from a small hall that was arranged with booths selling food and souvenirs. In the middle of the hall there was a small football field like rug with a character dressed as a football entertaining kids and taking pictures with them.

The show started at 7:00pm and ended at 8:15pm, including a 20 minutes break. So the musical is around 1 hour. By the way we, know people who went to the 3:30pm show and they said it started at 4:00pm. So I think it will always start 30 minutes later.

Everyone had a blast, adults and kids. I was singing all the way as I know most of the songs by heart. The songs were playback and the actors were really professional. I’m not sure if they were from the original cast, some of them looked foreigners though. I managed to capture the video above of the flags song. I loved that they used the Kuwaiti flag. Everybody was singing and waving.

Time well spent :)

Crest Lighthouse Commercial

Of all the “white teeth = bright light” commercials, this one is my favorite.

Interesting Ikea Lamp

Last week I went to Ikea in the Avenues. I like to browse around and check out their new items as I know that they are added throughout the year. This interesting lamp immediately grabbed my attention.

The lamp has an open bottom. You can place anything underneath it to give it a completely different look. There are many possibilities that I can think of.

The lamp is priced at KD19.

London Hotel Hunting – We Have a Match

My London Hotel Hunting turned out fruitful.

Marriott Hotel Park Lane popped up, and it’s a perfect match.

The hotel looks very nice, steps away from Oxford street, and feets away from Marble Arch underground station. We got very different rates on the internet. So I decided to call the hotel and enquire about their direct lowest rate.  The rate I got from the hotel was £200 less than the cheapest rate I got on the net.

We booked 6 nights stay for £1450, including taxes.

The North Face – Kuwait

I have never visited London this time of the year. My friend has. She says the weather is freezing cold that no matter how many layers and sweaters you wear, you will still be freezing. According to her, the only thing that will keep us warm is The North Face jacket. The North Face is a brand that is specialized in performance apparel, equipment, and footwear for climbers, mountaineers, extreme skiers, snowboarders, endurance runners, and explorers. I googled their official website to know the address of their store in London. To my surprise, I found out that they have an authorized dealer in Kuwait.

So we headed there. The store is called Explorers BASE and it carries The North Face brand among a few others. The place is cool and filled with all kinds of equipment for outdoor activitives, from Victorinox knives to camping tents. We were lucky that almost everything in the store was on 50% sale.

My husband got The Men’s Elysium Jacket (pictured above) for KD60. The cheapest price I found online for the Jacket was 190 pounds. So we got a good deal.  I didn’t find the one I want in my size, so I’ll get it from London.

Explorers BASE is worth a visit, and if you are planning to go to Europe these days, don’t miss out on their deals.

Explorers BASE is located at Al-Tilal Complex, Shuwaikh. Tel# 22256323

My Name is Khan

I just came back from watching the movie in the Avenues. It was an emotional roller coaster that lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. The movie was great and filled with events. But I cried so much! My god there were parts of the movie that I felt my heart was going to pop out of my chest! And there are other parts that will make you roll on the floor from laughter!

This is my first time watching a Bollywood movie. My friends who happen to be Indian movie fans tell me that the emotional roller coaster is very normal, specially with Shahrukh Khan.

The movie is a must see, for both genders. But girls, do yourselves a favor and stay away from makeup!

Inglorious Basterds

So why do I have a picture of baby einstein with a post about the movie Inglorious Basterds?

Because this is what I got when I played the movie CD!

I was finally in the mood to watch the movie as I hear its a great piece of production, and I get baby einstein!

I guess this is the real price that you pay when you buy pirated movies! :)
