Taking Next Monday Off

The Finale will air tomorrow, 23rd May, in the States.

My friend and I are taking the day off work to watch it on my big screen TV Monday morning. Sorry we can’t wait until the afternoon!

We have our tissue boxes ready to cry our eyes out.

We promised not to mock each other if the following happened:

  • Crying with funny sounds
  • Runny noses
  • Hugging the pillow for one hour after the episode ends
  • Banging head against the floor … Ok one will allow intervention if there is a possibility of going to work on Tuesday with a bumpy head!
  • Hugging the pillow for another hour after done hugging it for one hour

It’s the end of an Era!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

One thing I love about our group of friends’ birthdays is that they drag and drag and drag. We will be celebrating, giving out gifts, wishing all the best for like a month! Every year we go through a very thorough thinking process to decide what gift to get for the special girl. We reach points where we demand the birthday girl to give us her list of gifts to buy or at least choose from. Putting the whole burden on the birthday girl who sometimes does not know herself what she wants.

When my birthday came this year on the 16th of April. Here comes the pressure!

You gotta tell us what you want!

Come on list the gifts we don’t have much time!

Your birthday is coming soon you better act on it!

Of course there is some exaggeration here because we actually do it with love :P

Anyhoo, I said you know what? I don’t want a gift. I want us to hang out somewhere and just have fun! I told my friends this gift can only come from them as no one else can make this happen to me but my dear friends!

And it was like Halleluja!

My friends booked Sahara resort for Friday.

We thought of Sahara because we have been there before. Big villa. Private Swimming Pool. Cool Design.

And we went …

Let me remind you all of what Friday weather was like…

Dusty. Windy. Rainy. The whole works!

I forgot to mention that we planned a BBQ party.

And a BBQ party we did!

We arrived in the after noon. My poor friend dips herself halfway in the swiming pool just to come out 2 minutes later freezing as the water was very cold. So we all decided to dip our legs in the pool and enjoy the windy weather with the Ipod music.

We then started making the kebabs and tekkas into sticks for grilling. We also made the Arayes.

Grilling time came. We bought those ready grill kits from TSC. We set them on fire in the swimming pool area and began grilling. Everything was flying around us! We could not even see if the meat was fully cooked or not. We were laughing out hearts out from the whole thing!

Time to eat. Half the portions were burned. Some went back and forth to the grill several times as they were not fully cooked. Some were cooked to perfection.

It’s evening time now. Three of us dared to get in the swimming pool one more time. Surprisingly, the water was much warmer than the afternoon. Specially that it was still windy. The only explanation we came up with was that the swimming pool lights managed to warm up the water as they were very warm to the touch.

The pool. The music. The cool breeze. Pure fun.

We ended the evening with a game of BINGO!

I won three times in a row and was kicked out of the game and forbidden to play!

Honestly guys, this was my best birthday gift ever. Nothing tops having a blast with your best friends. Love You All :*

Hana’s Birthday Cake

As my friend is just like the rest of our gang, madly in love with London, I decided to get her a London Themed cake for her birthday. I called Crumbs and spoke to lovely Arwa Al Turkait for the arrangement, and this is the result :)

12 Cup Cakes with four different flavours of Toffee, Red Velvet, Chocolate, and Vanilla. I requested that the 8 themed cup cakes carry the following (from top left corner):

  • London black taxi cab
  • London underground sign
  • Selfridges shopping bag
  • UK flag
  • Harrods shopping bag
  • Umbrella with rain (there was some clear glaze drops all over the cake)
  • London red bus
  • Big Ben

We just loved it! When I took it over to my friend’s house she was so impressed that she did not allow any of us to touch it for like half an hour!

This is not for us to eat! You can just look at it and take pictures!

She kept saying …

We were laughing so hard as she really had trouble eating the cup cakes and messing up the design! We ended up sharing four cup cakes to try all the flavours. The only two london themed ones we tried were the Umbrella and Selfridges shopping bag, of course after removing the little art pieces and placing them on other cup cakes! My favourite were the red velvet and vanilla.

It was a blast. Crumbs did a wonderful job.

You may contact Crumbs on 2263-6614. More contact information are available on Crumbs official website here

You may also visit Crumbs Facebook Page here. They have wonderful pictures of their work.

Hang Out Lounge

My friend and I decided to have a quick lunch break from work in a near by coffee shop. I suggested that we hit Galleria 2000 as it has a quite atmosphere and has some places that I feel are “undiscovered”.

Finding Hang Out Lounge was a complete coincidence. The place was different from other coffee palces that we go to here in Kuwait. It felt very cozy and the interior design had a very personal touch to it. It seemed to me like if the owner wanted the place to look exactly like what it is now.

One wall was completely covered with all different types of coffee table books for you to browse through while enjoying your drink or meal. Another section had a chess table surrounded by low stools for the players. TV screens could be viewed from any angle in the place. There was also a semi private area for people who want to be away from the crowd. There was a lady sitting there with her laptop.

We played with this version of the X O game. There was a group next to us playing cards.

I don’t know how to really describe the atmosphere. It was the opposite of pretentious. I just did not feel like I was in Kuwait. You feel very free sitting there.

Hang Out Lounge is located on the Mezzanine floor in Galeria 2000.

Planner Concierge – Part of P2BK 2010

Yesterday morning I passed by “Proud 2 Be Kuwaiti” exhibition. Lots of booths. Diversified businesses. Interesting.

Of all the participants, Planner Concierge got my full attention. The picture taken above is of their booth. They featured a huge cartoon character, real grass, and a big ball.

It’s interesting that they had Kuwait Prime Minister Shaikh Nasser Almohammad Al-Sabah sign the ball, among other famous Kuwaiti football players.

Planner Concierge are there to promote their Authorized South Africa World Cup 2010 travel package. They are the ones to turn to if you want to attend this year’s World Cup event.

Up until now this is interesting, but it’s not what got my full eyes and ears…

I had a small talk with their GM, Mr. Abdulaziz Ben Awadh, who was available at the booth. He simply said me that they can arrange for me to attend any event I want to in the world!

Formula 1?

Vera Wang Runway show?

The Emmys?

The Oscars?

Yes. You name it, they’ll make sure you get there.

Mr. Abdulaziz says that they have contacts with a chain of agents all around the world that are well connected to almost everything. This is how it is possible for them to arrange invitations to the most “not within your reach events”. That’s what I call them! :)

Now I did not get into talks of how much it costs and all as I felt it’s unfair to ask such a question without giving specific details of the request to begin with.

Planner Concierge is part of a bigger organization called “Planner”. They offer other services besides the concierge. Their website seems to be under construction but it does have basic information on the Organization. You can visit their website here.

You may also contact them on 2266-7747

Barney’s Musical Castle. At Last

We had so much fun!

I had so much fun!

Our “rendezvous” was at 6:30pm yesterday. We arrived at 6:10 to see a long queue of cars lined up to get into the parking area. Security was well arranged. You can see policemen, fire trucks, and security checks at the entrance. We prepared well for the traffic and my husband dropped us off and left.

There was a long queue to enter the theater. It took us like 20 minutes to get in. The queue started from a small hall that was arranged with booths selling food and souvenirs. In the middle of the hall there was a small football field like rug with a character dressed as a football entertaining kids and taking pictures with them.

The show started at 7:00pm and ended at 8:15pm, including a 20 minutes break. So the musical is around 1 hour. By the way we, know people who went to the 3:30pm show and they said it started at 4:00pm. So I think it will always start 30 minutes later.

Everyone had a blast, adults and kids. I was singing all the way as I know most of the songs by heart. The songs were playback and the actors were really professional. I’m not sure if they were from the original cast, some of them looked foreigners though. I managed to capture the video above of the flags song. I loved that they used the Kuwaiti flag. Everybody was singing and waving.

Time well spent :)

Saturday Night Live – Qaddafi Explains Himself!

I watched this yesterday on OSN Comedy and I could not stop laughing for a long time after it ended! I searched all over the net for the whole sketch, which laster around 5 minutes, but I only found the 2 minute video above. I guess it has something to do with NBC copy rights.

The sketch was made in return to the public reaction towards Moammar Qddafi’s UN open speech that he addressed back in September 2009.

True story. After 75 minutes of Qaddafi giving his speech, his personal translator had enough and shouted into the live microphone, in Arabic, “I just can’t take it anymore!”. The Cheif of the UN Arabic section took over and translated the last 20 minutes. Link

Zain AD Eaters Event 2010

I was invited by my lovely friend from Zain to attend the AD Eaters Event that took place at the Avenues Cinema. It is my first time and I really enjoyed the experience. Unfortuantely I did not have my camera on me. I managed to capture some pictures and videos with my iPhone.

We arrived at 6:30pm. The lobby area in the Cinemas hall was closed and arranged for the event and only people with tickets could get in. Promoters from different companies had booths promoting and offering their products for free to try. Participating companies were Pringles, Nescafe, Nestle Fitness, VISA among others. Popcorn and cotton candy were also served. Yum!

I loved those beany bags that were scattered all around the place in Zain colors. I would have taken one if I could!

DJ SISQO was there to keep the mood alive in the hall and Zain prepared a small stage where two entertaining magic shows took place. I managed capture the small video above of  the show that took place. Video quality is not great but it will give you a feel of the atmosphere in the place.

At around 7:45 we entered the movie theater to start the show. There were Zain goodi bags on each chair. This little “Clappity Clap” was used the whole time by everyone to either clap with the music or clap for ads! we loved it! There were lots of great ads from the 1970’s up until 2008. Some of them really had our tears rolling from laughter, others were extremely sad and touching. I will be posting about my favourites shortly.
