My Thai Massage

During our stay in Sahara, we were offered two vouchers for a free massage at Sahara spa. So I booked myself a Thai massage.

This was my first time experiencing Thai massage.

When I arrived, they gave me white silky cotton blouse and trousers to wear. When I entered the massage room I saw a big white mattress on the floor with 1 pillow and a flower next to it. I was like:

Oh dear god this does not look good!

The masseuse asked me if I want heavey, medium, or light pressure. I requested medium.

And within a minute I requested the light pressure!

I think I should have learned this by now from my previous Spa Time experience.

So what does a Thai massage look/feel like?

All I knew is that there was a Cirque De Soliel being played on my back!

There are no oils used. The smoothness of the massage is taken from the fabric being worn. It involves a lot of intense massage/pressure and stretching of the body muscles. Mostly the Back, shoulders, and arms. I’ve been having a permanent pain in my right shoulder, I guess from sleeping in the wrong position. The masseuse did a very good job focusing on this muscle in particular. It did feel a lot better when I left.

It is extremely comfortable having the massage done on a big mattress, and on the floor, which is always the case with Thai Massage.

I have no previous experience in this type of massage in another Spa in Kuwait, but I definitely left feeling better with much flexed muscles.

I would recommend the Thai massage if you require a lot of stretching and deep pressure for tired or painful muscles. It does a better job than the regular swedish massage. I would opt for a swedish massage if I want to be relaxed in general.

My Battle with Lifestyle Change

I always had this ultimate dream of having a complete lifestyle change in the way I eat. I want to have a healthy breakfast, healthy lunch, healthy dinner, and 2-3 snacks a day.

My approach to accomplish this is to a do a gradual change of the way I eat. One meal at a time.

I started with my breakfast. And I succeeded. It’s been like one year now for me to have the following breakfast everyday:

  • 2 brown toast (140 calories)
  • Zaatar (0 calories)
  • 2 small Pinar labneh (50 calories)
  • 1 cup of fresh milk (half & half) with coffee and Splenda sweetner. (120 calories). If at work, I have french coffee with Splenda also.

Total = 310 calories

The only times I skip this is when I have breakfast at a restaurant, which is like once a month. Sometimes if I want to indulge on the weekend, I have the following with my Coffee:

  • 2 Brown Toast (140 calories)
  • 1 scrambled egg, no oil (90 calories)
  • 1 slice of cheese (50 calories)

Total = 280 calories

But the problem comes next. I can’t seem to change the way I eat my lunch. Having an 8-4 job makes it very difficult to have a healthy lunch. I try sometimes to prepare a sandwich the night before, but this lasts like a couple of days. I then go back to either having a lunch break with a friend at a nearby restaurant, or starving myself until 5 pm until I reach home and want to eat everything in sight.

I always think that I if I had a less stressful job, I would be able to eat healthier. Yet I refuse to accept this as an excuse. I believe if I made it a habit to have a healthy breakfast, I can make it a habit to have a healthy lunch, and ultimately a healthy dinner.

I would love to hear suggestions from you, healthy people, on what you prepare/bring for your lunch at work (Unhealthy people please stand behind me in the line :) )

I want to reach a stage when I don’t think twice on what to have for lunch.

Just like my breakfast.

A habit.

World’s Largest Ambulance belongs to Dubai

Last December, Dubai has received the world’s largest ambulance, which measures around 20 meters long. The ambulance broke the World Guinness Book Record as the world’s largest mobile medical center. It can fit over 100 patients and it includes Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and an Operating Theater, among many other facilities. The video above has an inside out review of the project, presented by the Project Manager himself.

I Heart Facial with Sushila!

Finally I got a call yesterday at 3:30 from Touch of Class beauty spa. There was a cancellation from one of their clients for the the 6:30pm facial appointment with Sushila. I immediately said YES!

Sushila is a very nice lady that is known to be the best in Kuwait for giving facial. I never go to anyone else. She is very skilled at what she does and you can tell that she does her work with love. Sushila never stops learning as the certificates on her wall keep increasing more and more each year.

My facial session lasted an hour and a half. You lie on a massage table while she does her magic in cleaning and massaging your face with all different types of tools and creams that she uses with so much skill. What I love about the session is that you get a facial and a body massage at the same time. While Sushila works on your face, another lady works on relaxing you with a leg massage. At some point during the facial, it hurts when she pinches your skin so hard to get the dirt out. The massage does its job in distracting you from the pain. You always walk out with a fresh, clean and a clearer skin with Zero red marks.

The facial cost KD55. There are other services available. You may check with them for the list.

Touch of Class is located at Gulf Road, Abbas Akbar Complex, 1st Floor, Flat 1-A,

Tel. 2571-4040.

Make sure to book your appointment early as she is fully booked most of the time.

Spa Time Avenues Mall

My friend and I went to our appointment at Spa Time Avenues Mall at 6pm last Thursday. The reception area was very nicely decorated with warm colors. Pictures were not allowed beyond that.

We asked for a list of their 2:30 hours packages. They had quite a few of them. I picked the Herbal Healing Package and my friend went with Tropical Fruit. All Spa Time 2:30 hours packages cost KD40, which is considered a very good price compared to the treatment that you get. The package usually includes a massage, followed by a body scrub and a 20 minutes of Jacuzzi time. We picked the garden view room when we made the reservation.

The Garden View Room

The room was much smaller than we expected, as we have already tried the one in Spa Time Muhallab and it was quite spacious. The space around the two massage tables was barely enough for the masseuses to move around. The room icnluded also 1 shower and 2 Jacuzzis. There was one  glass wall in the room that was overlooking some indoor plants and two or three water taps built on a dark brown rocky wall, pouring water and making the sound of waterfalls. When you close your eyes you will get that feeling.

I have to say that the name of the room was kind of misleading as of what you will actually get. We had higher expectations than what we saw.

The Massage

They start off by soaking your feet in rose petal water. Then they start the massage. Now you don’t want to do my mistake when you decide to go for a massage, after more than 2 years of not going. I have asked for medium pressure. Sometimes I felt the lady was pressing too hard on my shoulders and upper back, which felt both good and painful at the same time. But when I went home I had the feeling that my upper back was bruised. It hurt so much, although there were no marks. It took two days for the pain to go away. If you have not done a massage for quite a while, tell the masseuse to go easy on you.

Herbal Healing Massage

  • The oils and the scrub used do not have a sweet or lovely smell. They smell like herbs.
  • At one time during the massage the masseuse used two hot stones, one in each hand, to massage my back. It was very de-stressing. I liked it.
  • In the Jaccuzi, salts are used and they don’t make bubbles.

Tropical Fruit

  • The oil is mixed with fresh orange juice. We could hear the masseuse squeezing the oranges. My friend thought the smell was too overwhelming and she would not go with it next time. Your skin will have the same smell of your hands when you peel an orange.
  • After the scrub they apply a mask for the whole body, which was not included in the Herbal Healing Package.
  • In the Jaccuzi, shower gel is used and it makes lots of bubbles. You will be literally soaked in a cotton candy like Jaccuzi! It was very nice.

The Jacuzzi

It was the best part. At a first look of the Jaccuzi, you would think that it is small and not deep enough to be enjoyed. But once we went in with all the water and bubbles, It was very relaxing and of a good size. The massueses had to litrelally drain all of the water so we could get out! We loved it.

Overall the experience was very much enjoyed. Spa Time staff are very professionally trained and they could rarely do you wrong. I would defietely go back again.

Spa Time Avenues Mall is located in Phase 2 on the 2nd floor, next to Burberry. Their contact number is 2259-8010

Flu Season

I’m sick. Really sick. I’m talking nose running, head spinning, body aching sick. I took a sick leave today from work, but made the mistake of going out in the evening thinking that I felt better.

Bad idea.

Very bad idea.
